Created in 2010, La Mèche quickly became a frontrunner in Québec literature, offering strong voices that appeal to readers seeking daring and provocative works.

Marginality, solitude, love, sexuality, identity and social ties are some of the universal themes of the books published by La Mèche. These themes appeal and relate to anyone from Montréal to Istanbul, Beijing to Mexico City, Brooklyn to Berlin.

Frank and straightforward, the innovative and ambitious writing styles of these books continuously surprise readers who encounter characters on quests that very much resemble their own or those of their neighbours.

Noteworthy titles, such as Et au pire, on se mariera (2011), Martine à la plage (2012, 2019), Au 5e (2017) and Burgundy (2020) have garnered significant critical and commercial success in Québec. They can be found in Québec’s bookstores and libraries, and many literature teachers have added them to their CEGEP curriculums.

La Mèche’s books have been finalists or won the Prix des libraires du Québec, the Prix littéraire des collégiens, the Prix Adrienne-Choquette, the Prix Jacques-Brossard and the Grand Prix littéraire Archambault.
